SEAS Online Major Declaration Starts on October 14

ATTN: SEAS SOPHOMORES (2011)

As a sophomore in the School of Engineering and Applied Science you will be asked to declare your major online in just one week. We want to make sure that in the meantime you know about the resources at your disposal and the events being planned to help you think critically about this big step in your undergraduate education.

First, if you are still undecided about a major you should contact your advisor in the Center for Student Advising (CSA) immediately so he or she can help you make a decision. Before your meeting look closely at the resources we have assembled online to assist you in navigating the major decision process: http://www.studentaffairs.columbia.edu/csa/seas_majordec/index.php

Second, at the end of this email is a list of upcoming events designed specifically for you and your classmates to help you decide your major or get connected with people in your new major department.

Third, depending on which major you select during online major declaration, there is a chance you will be assigned a new CSA advisor in late October who specializes in your particular major. Over the last year SEAS faculty and students have made it clear that they would like the CSA advisors to specialize by department, so we will make sure that you are matched with the CSA advisor who knows the most about your major.

We will be in touch again with instructions for declaring your major when the declaration webpage goes live on Tuesday, October 14, at which point you will have until Friday, October 17 to make your selection. If you have any questions please email your CSA advisor or call to set up an appointment.

Regards,
The Center for Student Advising (CSA)
