Sociology Department's Revised Major and Concentration Requirements

If you are a recently declared sociology major or concentrator, or are considering a major or concentration in sociology, please be aware that as of September 2009 the requirements for the major and concentration have changed as follows.

THE MAJOR IN SOCIOLOGY 36 points

Required: 3 courses, 10 points

  • 1000 The Social World
  • 3000 Social Theory
  • 3010 Methods for Social Research (4 points)
Electives: 26 points in the Department of Sociology, to include 3 seminars
  • (these may include the 2 semester Senior Honors seminars)

THE CONCENTRATION IN SOCIOLOGY 26 points

Required: 3 courses, 10 points
  • 1000 The Social World
  • 3000 Social Theory
  • 3010 Methods for Social Research (4 points)
Electives: 16 points: 5 courses in the Department of Sociology, to include 1 seminar
