This program provides research training, faculty mentorship and financial support for Columbia College underrepresented minority students and other College students with a demonstrated commitment to racial diversity who wish to pursue a Ph.D. and whose intellectual and social commitments embody those of the late Dr. Benjamin Mays. Accepted fellows may enter the program in their Junior year and receive a yearly stipend of $2,000. In addition, they will be eligible for summer research funding up to $3,000, and travel expense reimbursement up to $500. After entering a Ph.D. program in one of the designated fields, fellows are eligible for up to $10,000 in undergraduate tuition loan repayment. You do not need to be majoring in one of the designated fields to be eligible, but you should be planning to pursue a Ph.D. in one of them.
The designated fields are: Anthropology, Area Studies, Art History, Classics, Computer Science, Demography, Earth Science, Ecology, English, Ethnomusicology, Foreign Language, Geology, History, Literature, Mathematics, Musicology, Philosophy, Physics, Political Theory, Religion, and Sociology.

Davis Projects for Peace – Summer 2009
Still thinking of how to spend the summer of 2009? Are you motivated and interested in developing your own grassroots project that you can implement anywhere in the world?! Well we have a program for you!!
Davis Projects for Peace is an initiative for students of participating schools in the Davis United World College Scholars Program to design a “project for peace” of their own. With no clear definition or boundaries, students are to define a “project for peace” to encourage creativity and innovation. Through a competition of 76 campuses, 100 projects are selected for funding at $10,000 each. Projects can take place anywhere in the world, and it must be completed during the summer of 2009. Students can submit a project individually or in a group. This opportunity is open to all Columbia undergraduate students.
Please submit (1) the application cover letter, (2) a two-page proposal describing the project, (2) a one-page budget outline, and (4) resumes for each applicant in hard copy to the Fellowship Programs Office and electronically to Dean Michael Pippenger at mp2496@columbia.edu no later than Monday, FEBRUARY 9th, at 5:00pm.
